About the position

Phoenix Tailings is seeking a highly motivated and results-oriented Chemical Engineer to join our dynamic team dedicated to recovering rare earth elements in a rare earth metal refinery. In this role, you will leverage your extensive experience to contribute significantly to our cutting-edge processes, ensuring efficient and responsible extraction of critical resources essential for clean energy technologies, electric vehicles, and advanced electronics. As part of our mission to be the world's first fully clean mining and metals production company, you will play a vital role in optimizing our operations and minimizing environmental impact. Your responsibilities will include leading initiatives to optimize process parameters, collaborating with production teams to integrate advanced materials solutions into our production systems, and liaising with research teams to explore innovative approaches. You will conduct materials testing under simulated production conditions to assess performance and longevity, develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) to maintain consistency and safety in production processes, and assist in running experiments while developing detailed mass and energy balance models. Additionally, you will maintain process flow diagrams and techno-economic models, contribute to the development and review of laboratory test plans for rare earth extraction and refining, and operate pilot equipment while supporting the design of commercial processes and equipment with a focus on safety. Your role will also involve preparing comprehensive technical reports and documentation to effectively communicate findings and progress. Responsibilities

  • Lead initiatives to optimize process parameters and minimize environmental impact.
  • Collaborate with production teams to integrate advanced materials solutions into production systems.
  • Liaise with research teams to explore innovative approaches.
  • Conduct materials testing under simulated production conditions to assess performance and longevity.
  • Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) to maintain consistency and safety in production processes.
  • Assist in running experiments and developing detailed mass and energy balance models.
  • Maintain process flow diagrams and techno-economic models.
  • Contribute to the development and review of laboratory test plans for rare earth extraction and refining.
  • Operate pilot equipment and support the design of commercial processes and equipment with a focus on safety.
  • Support senior engineers in sourcing equipment and establishing project timelines.
  • Ensure safe operations by designing processes and equipment with safety considerations in mind.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports and documentation to communicate findings and progress effectively.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Materials Engineering or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in materials engineering within metals production or a related sector, particularly in high-temperature production environments.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and propose materials solutions that enhance production efficiency and sustainability.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Thrives in fast-paced environments, demonstrating adaptability and efficiency in meeting project deadlines and objectives.
