About the position

The Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) is seeking two Training and Consultation Specialists for the Division of Student Services for the 2024-2025 school year. This position is based at the Educational Service Center in Downingtown. The role is designed for individuals who are passionate about creating brighter futures for students, families, and the community. As a Training and Consultation Specialist, you will conduct training and professional development programs within Chester County and beyond. Your primary responsibility will be to develop and implement training initiatives that support the growth of educators, support staff, and school leaders, ultimately maximizing student achievement. You will provide leadership and guidance to other specialists and external consultants to enhance programming and support student success. The position requires conducting individual and group training sessions based on needs assessments from schools and community organizations. You will plan, develop, and deliver training programs that cover a wide range of skills, including special education, IEP development, instructional strategies, and social-emotional learning. Additionally, you will oversee the development of training curricula, instructional materials, and visual aids, ensuring they align with program objectives. Evaluating the effectiveness of training programs and making necessary adjustments will also be a key part of your role, as will supporting schools in building local capacity to address academic and behavioral health needs.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct individual, group, and organization-based training and professional development based on needs analyses and assessments at the request of schools and community organizations.
  • Plan, develop, and deliver individual and/or group training and instructional programs, encompassing a wide range of technical, operational, management, and/or other skills areas.
  • Provide support in the area of special education including but not limited to IEP development, progress monitoring, instructional strategies, social emotional learning, mental health, and more.
  • Develop or oversee the development of training curricula; formulate or review training outlines and determine appropriate instructional methodologies and formats; evaluate and recommend incorporation of vendor programs, as appropriate to meet overall training goals and objectives.
  • Oversee and coordinate the development and preparation of teaching and visual aids, instructional materials, computer tutorials, and reference materials appropriate to specific program objectives.
  • Coordinate, facilitate, and/or conduct specified professional development activities, such as planning team building events, organization analyses, recommendations for school improvement, restructuring exercises, social emotional well-being, and more.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of training and development programs and utilize relevant evaluation data to revise or recommend changes in instructional objectives and methods.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to employee and organizational development consultants and training professionals.
  • Support schools in building local capacity by helping educators and others at the local level develop skills needed to work with students with academic and/or behavioral health needs.
  • Assist in coordinating workflow and administrative activities necessary to deliver and document program implementation.
  • Provide input and assist in the planning, assessment, and implementation of organizational goals and objectives, in line with overall school goals and objectives.
  • Participate in PDE-sponsored training sessions and planning meetings.
  • Utilize and disseminate PDE sponsored materials and information.
  • Perform additional duties as needed and specified by PDE and the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education or related field required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to facilitate effective and engaging group trainings, coaching, and meetings with teachers, paraeducators, and administrators.
  • Experience with IEP development/contribution based on reliable, valid assessment data.
  • Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience (special education preferred), school-age level preferred.
  • PDE Special Education certification or certification in related field required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Psychologist or BCBA certification preferred.
