About the position

The position involves teaching knowledge and skills in various art forms, including crafts, drawing, painting, lettering, design, commercial art, art history, and three-dimensional art. The instructor will follow the course of study adopted by the School Committee and engage in other appropriate learning activities. The role also includes instructing pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter as specified by state law and school regulations. The teacher will develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations in students, enabling them to make qualitative judgments about art. Additionally, the instructor will demonstrate techniques in activities such as drawing, painting, and modeling, using both standard and teacher-prepared instructional aids.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches knowledge and skills in art, including crafts, drawing, painting, lettering, design, commercial art, art history, and three-dimensional art.
  • Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations.
  • Provides instruction to develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations in pupils.
  • Demonstrates techniques in activities such as drawing, painting, and modeling.
  • Develops instructional plans and organizes class time for a balanced program of instruction.
  • Provides individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to varying pupil needs.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior for an orderly environment.
  • Instructs pupils in proper care and use of tools and equipment.
  • Organizes storage areas and controls use of materials and tools.
  • Evaluates pupil performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understanding.
  • Selects and requisitions instructional materials and maintains inventory records.
  • Plans and presents art displays and exhibitions of pupils' work.
  • May sponsor exhibits from outside the school.
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education and self-selected activities.
  • Maintains an auditable record of pupil attendance and reports absences.
  • Assigns citizenship and scholarship marks.
  • Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.
  • Participates in curriculum and developmental programs within the school.
  • Provides standards-based instruction and supplemental support with modifications as required.
  • Plans and delivers modified and differentiated lessons for students.
  • Updates and maintains Rediker for student grades and report cards.
  • Attends and participates in scheduled PLC, 504, and IEP meetings.
