About the position

The Teacher - Art K-5 position at Pinon Elementary School involves teaching the approved SFPS curriculum to students of all abilities, promoting artistic growth, and providing appropriate art activities. The role requires a commitment to fostering a creative environment and collaborating with other educators to integrate the arts into the core curriculum. The teacher will be responsible for lesson planning, student assessment, and maintaining a positive learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes an environment/climate conducive to creative visual arts education.
  • Communicates effectively with school principal, colleagues, and arts education coordinator.
  • Provides lesson plans that are aligned to the SFPS art curricula and incorporates Common Core subject areas.
  • Assesses students according to district practice.
  • Coordinates with visiting artists and community arts organizations to enrich the arts program.
  • Orders and maintains materials & tools.
  • Displays student art at school site(s) throughout the school year.
  • Attends monthly district art faculty meetings.
  • Instructs and plans for the visual arts program at the site(s) assigned during the nine-month contract.
  • Ensures the adequate supervision of students.
  • Establishes and maintains rapport with students to encourage self-expression and higher order thinking skills.
  • Motivates students to achieve maximum potential.
  • Takes necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Works collaboratively with staff, families, and community resources to support diverse student success.
  • Complies with and supports school and district regulations and policies.
  • Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree.
  • NM teaching license with visual arts endorsement.
  • Knowledge of visual arts pedagogy.
  • Familiarity with a broad range of materials and techniques in visual arts.
  • Ability to manage classroom and differentiate instruction.
  • Ability to collaborate with classroom teachers.
  • Computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Outlook.

Nice-to-haves

  • At least one year's previous teaching experience.
