About the position
The Mechanical Engineer Co-Op position at Textron Systems in Hunt Valley, MD, is designed for students pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering or a related field. This role offers hands-on experience in mechanical design, collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, and the opportunity to contribute to innovative defense technologies. Co-Op participants will engage in various engineering tasks, including solid modeling, design capture, and the creation of professional engineering drawings, while also gaining exposure to the manufacturing process and project documentation.
Responsibilities
- Providing creative solutions to mechanical engineering design challenges
- Collaborating with peer engineers of varying disciplines
- Solid modeling using NX and Solidworks
- Design capture and configuration management via PLM systems
- Creating professional engineering drawings for manufacturing per ASME standards
- Producing designs that leverage common fabrication and assembly processes
- Working with internal machine shops to manufacture parts on site
- Creating structural designs using theory and analysis tools
- Analyzing and designing tracked vehicles of varying weight classes
- Integrating engines and generators into hybrid electric platforms
- Operating measurement tools, strain gauges, and data acquisition systems
- Documenting and presenting derived requirements, designs, and analysis results
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field
- Technical internship experience preferred
- Ability to work 40 hours/week on a flexible schedule (5/8, 4/10)
- U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain a security clearance
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with PLM systems
- Familiarity with ASME standards
- Knowledge of hybrid electric platforms
