About the position

The Cybersecurity Software Developer Internship at APL is designed for students pursuing degrees in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fields. The role focuses on developing solutions to pressing cybersecurity challenges while providing interns with hands-on experience in software development and systems engineering. Interns will work on innovative projects, network with experienced professionals, and participate in engaging team activities.

Responsibilities

  • Work on projects focusing on formal methods, malware analysis, quantum computing, cryptography, systems engineering, and trusted computation.
  • Network and learn from experienced individuals with diverse backgrounds across industry and academia.
  • Participate in team-building activities such as summer cookouts and board game nights.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or similar degrees.
  • Programming experience in Java, C/C++, Python, or other common programming languages.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
  • Interest in performing research and exploring new cyber concepts.
  • Ability to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance and ultimately a Secret Clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • General cybersecurity knowledge.
  • Strong software engineering skills and familiarity with version control software.
  • Strong background in discrete math, algorithms, and logical foundations.
  • Experience with malware detection, cloud computing, cryptography, or computer networks.
