About the position

The R&D Associate Engineer at ABB is responsible for collaborating with a team to conduct testing for global R&D teams focused on electrical and high power components. This role involves performing compliance testing, preparing and operating test equipment, and maintaining accurate records while adhering to safety protocols. The position requires a blend of technical skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with a team of technical resources to carry out test requests for Global R&D teams in electrical and high power components.
  • Perform R&D and compliance testing using standard and specialized test equipment, ensuring compliance to quality and delivery metrics.
  • Execute all technical functions relevant to the preparation and testing as specified by global test requests.
  • Prepare and operate test equipment for carrying out specific electrical tests, including calibration and dielectric testing.
  • Perform environmental type tests such as rain spray, hose down, and water mist.
  • Perform basic calculations of technical data and report them accordingly.
  • Communicate test data and prepare technical documentation and formal reports as needed.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and qualification records.
  • Manage the test queue and update on a timely basis.
  • Maintain confidentiality in handling proprietary test data and formulations.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, supplies, and working area.
  • Adhere to ABB safety protocols and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Industrial Engineering and minimum 2 years of related experience is desired.
  • Basic knowledge in the operation of electrical and electromechanical equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of electricity theory and ability to read electrical schematics.
  • Experience with reading and understanding UL, CSA, and IEC testing standards is desired.
  • Working knowledge of electrical testing equipment.
  • PC proficiency including MS Office - Outlook, Excel, Word as a minimum.
  • Must have a driver's license and reliable transportation to commute to satellite lab.
  • Eagerness to learn advanced electrical principles and electromechanical expertise.
  • Candidates must already have work authorization to work for ABB in the US.

Nice-to-haves
