About the position

The 508 Document Remediation Specialist/Technical Writer at GDIT is responsible for ensuring that all training deliverables comply with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act standards, making them accessible for individuals with disabilities. This role involves collaborating with the MATS Training Team to conduct document accessibility reviews, remediating documents, and drafting public-facing materials in plain language. The position requires strong technical writing skills and expertise in document accessibility, particularly in the healthcare sector.

Responsibilities

• Conduct Section 508 compliance document accessibility reviews and remediation.
• Edit and finalize documents for logical reading order by text-to-speech software.
• Design and develop document templates adhering to 508 accessibility guidelines.
• Advise staff on best practices for creating accessible materials.
• Research, prepare, and edit public-facing health policy technical documents.
• Prepare and edit storyboards for web-based training products.
• Standardize contract deliverables including meeting minutes and job aids.
• Support program-wide development of training content in plain language.
• Ensure documents meet customer specifications for quality and style.
• Act as a liaison between the program and CMS regarding access to systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in public policy, public administration, business, English, communications, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience preparing and editing technical documents.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat Pro, including Accessibility Checkers.
• Experience tracking schedules and troubleshooting project delays.
• Ability to obtain Public Trust clearance.
