Bloomingdale's is seeking an experienced alterations expert to supervise the store alterations operation as an Hourly Alterations Manager (HMA). In this role, you will play a crucial part in helping customers look great and feel wonderful about their new purchases. The alterations process is the final step in closing the sale, making it a key component of our business. You will be responsible for working on both men's and women's garments, including suits and evening wear. As an HMA, you will function as a player-coach, leading by example and ensuring a profitable, timely, and customer-centric operation that reflects the Bloomingdale's brand at every detail level. Your essential functions will include effectively managing the workroom's Profit & Loss, which encompasses revenue, payroll, and non-payroll expenses. You will develop collaborative relationships with the store leadership team, understanding all store goals and plans, and informing the alterations team of store initiatives to drive sales and serve customers. Leading by example, you will provide regular feedback to alterations colleagues, coach behaviors, and utilize performance management tools to drive results. You will also be responsible for training the team on all policies, procedures, equipment usage, and safety criteria. In addition to managing the team, you will present a pleasant, knowledgeable, and positive attitude to customers, explaining alterations services and their value. Delivering a quality experience and product is essential to driving return business, and you will ensure that quality work is completed on time, meeting customer specifications to reduce waste and achieve profitability. You will use your product knowledge and fitting expertise to assist selling colleagues in building sales, adhere to best practices for staffing and material resource deployment, manage supplies inventory and budget, and track and process paperwork for all alterations services. Your expertise will also include marking garments correctly, understanding which garments can or cannot be altered, and working with various fabrics and styles, including high-end men's and women's apparel, leather, and beading. Full knowledge of the complete alterations process, both by hand and machine, is required, and you will educate selling colleagues on key aspects of alterations.
