About The Position

The Educational Assistant - Special Education provides essential educational support to students with disabilities under the supervision of special education teachers and specialists. This temporary position involves assisting with instruction, supervising students, and addressing special health care needs, ensuring a safe and effective learning environment for students with various challenges.

Requirements

• Completed associate's degree or higher, or at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (72 college quarter hours or more).
• Prior job-related experience with school-age children, either paid or volunteer.
• Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance and First Aid/CPR certification.

Responsibilities

• Assist special education teachers in implementing lesson plans and developing students' daily living and behavioral skills.
• Provide instructional support to students in large groups, small groups, and one-on-one situations.
• Administer first aid and medical assistance, including tube feeding and catheterization, to students as needed.
• Maintain classroom equipment and student records related to special education.
• Monitor individual students and classroom activities to ensure a safe learning environment.
• Perform basic clerical functions to support teachers, including record keeping and scheduling.
• Attend training and utilize district-approved de-escalation techniques when necessary.
• Develop materials for student IEP implementation and use progress monitoring tools to assess student outcomes.
