Irvine Valley College is seeking Part-Time Instructors to teach English as a Second Language (ESL) credit courses. The courses will focus on academic writing and academic skills tailored for multilingual speakers. Instructors will cover a range of content in academic writing, from constructing academic paragraphs to developing multi-paragraph, multi-source transfer-level essays. Candidates with experience in teaching transfer-level courses are particularly encouraged to apply. Additionally, we are looking for ESL instructors who have experience providing one-on-one support to students in a writing lab environment. Teaching assignments may also include long-term substitute positions, providing flexibility and variety in teaching opportunities. This temporary, part-time faculty position offers the chance to assist a diverse student body in achieving their educational goals. As part of one of the largest community college districts in Southern California, Irvine Valley College provides a wide array of opportunities across transfer, general education, career, and technical education programs. These part-time positions are filled on an as-needed basis, and applicants should ideally reside within commuting distance to Orange County. The primary responsibilities of part-time faculty include teaching classes in alignment with established curriculum and course outlines. Instructors will prepare and deliver course materials, outlines, and lectures that support the learning objectives outlined in the course syllabus. They may also be involved in developing and measuring learning outcomes as identified by the department, assessing student performance, and maintaining accurate grade records. Faculty members are expected to report assessment data on student learning outcomes and utilize this data to enhance teaching and learning practices. Maintaining professional conduct and ethics, staying current in their subject matter, and adhering to college regulations and policies are also essential duties. Faculty may be required to teach during various times, including day, evening, weekend, online, and off-campus classes.
