The Firearms Instructor/Senior Range Safety Officer will serve as a critical component in the administration and execution of firearms training courses. This role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including planning, organizing, and presenting various firearms training programs. The incumbent will ensure that all training objectives are met and that the courses are conducted in compliance with relevant safety standards and regulations, including OSHA and EPA guidelines. As a subject matter expert at the Foreign Affairs Security Training Center (FASTC), the instructor will also be responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of training and making necessary adjustments to improve the curriculum. In addition to instructing basic and advanced firearms courses, the instructor will conduct scenario-based training that incorporates the use of deadly force. This includes providing after-action reviews and feedback to trainees to enhance their learning experience. The role requires a thorough understanding of U.S. Constitutional law, relevant case law, and the policies of the Diplomatic Security (DS) program, which will be applied to training scenarios. The instructor will also be tasked with reviewing training materials and lesson plans to ensure they align with established training objectives. The position demands a proactive approach to problem-solving, particularly in the preparation and execution of training sessions. The instructor will evaluate training effectiveness through feedback from trainees and other instructors, and will identify areas for improvement in course content and instructional methods. Maintaining liaison with various law enforcement, military, and civilian organizations is essential to stay updated on current security techniques and methods in firearms training. The instructor will also provide technical guidance on firearms and use of deadly force to managers, law enforcement personnel, and students, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter. Overall, this position requires a high level of independence, as the instructor will be expected to operate with minimal supervision while adhering to established policies and practices. The role also includes supervisory responsibilities, where the instructor will guide and evaluate the performance of other instructors and trainees.
