About the position

The Neighborhood Transportation Coordinator (Planner II) position at the City of Fort Lauderdale involves mid-level professional work in city transportation planning. The role focuses on facilitating neighborhood multimodal transportation projects that align with the city's transportation goals, which aim to create safe and complete streets and improve the overall transportation system for all users. The position requires collaboration with residents, partner agencies, and various stakeholders to identify transportation challenges, develop project concepts, and assist in grant development.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a dedicated point of contact for neighborhood transportation requests including pedestrian & bicycle safety, traffic flow, and congestion.
  • Work with local, county, and state agencies to formulate policies and programs related to transportation issues.
  • Coordinate and submit projects to obtain local, state, and federal funding.
  • Represent the City and coordinate transportation and transit planning projects with various organizations and agencies.
  • Respond to public inquiries regarding transportation issues, programs, and projects.
  • Plan and organize assigned work programs and review work for accuracy and timeliness.
  • Manage consultant relationships and contracts as needed.
  • Represent the Department at Neighborhood Association meetings and other related meetings.
  • Develop or manage the development of transportation plans, studies, and analyses.
  • Conduct studies and prepare associated work products for reports and presentations.
  • Plan and conduct community outreach efforts to reach public consensus.
  • Collect, summarize, and analyze data related to transportation planning.
  • Conduct field surveys on the transportation system to identify potential solutions.
  • Review concepts and design plans for roadway projects for multimodal accommodations.
  • Provide information and assistance to City officials and the public.
  • Prepare written recommendations and make presentations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in urban and regional planning, geography, architecture, or a closely related field.
  • At least two years of experience in transportation planning work at a responsible level.
  • A Master's Degree in a related field may substitute for one year of experience.
  • Flexible schedule required, including attendance at evening public meetings.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in urban and regional planning, geography, architecture, public or business administration.
  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification.
  • Previous experience working for or with government agencies.
