The Plumber's Helper position with the City of Albuquerque involves assisting assigned plumbers in the installation and repair of plumbing fixtures, including pipe and gas systems. Responsibilities
- Assist assigned plumbers in the installation and repair of plumbing fixtures.
- Support all types of plumbing and pipefitting tasks.
- Assist with maintenance and repair of HVAC systems.
- Learn and apply common plumbing materials including valves, pipe, fittings, and controls.
- Use a variety of common plumbing hand-tools effectively.
- Perform basic techniques of pipe cutting and threading.
- Understand and apply basic procedures and terminology used in the plumbing trade.
- Conduct basic preventive maintenance of plumbing and HVAC equipment.
- Assist with backflow device installation and repair.
- Communicate clearly and concisely with team members and supervisors.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Thirty (30) credit hours of vocational training in plumbing or HVAC systems.
- One (1) year of plumbing or pipefitting experience.
- Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License or ability to obtain by date of hire.
- Ability to obtain a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
Nice-to-haves
- Knowledge of operational hazards and standard safety practices.
- Ability to learn basic furnace, boiler, air-conditioning, and refrigeration-unit repair methods and procedures.
- Skill in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, and plans.
