Responsibilities

  • Assist assigned plumbers in the installation and repair of plumbing fixtures.
  • Support all types of plumbing and pipefitting tasks.

  • Learn and apply common plumbing materials including valves, pipe, fittings, and controls.
  • Use a variety of common plumbing hand-tools effectively.
  • Perform basic techniques of pipe cutting and threading.
  • Understand and apply basic procedures and terminology used in the plumbing trade.
  • Conduct basic preventive maintenance of plumbing and HVAC equipment.
  • Assist with backflow device installation and repair.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely with team members and supervisors.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Thirty (30) credit hours of vocational training in plumbing or HVAC systems.
  • One (1) year of plumbing or pipefitting experience.
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License or ability to obtain by date of hire.
  • Ability to obtain a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of operational hazards and standard safety practices.
  • Ability to learn basic furnace, boiler, air-conditioning, and refrigeration-unit repair methods and procedures.
  • Skill in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, and plans.
  • Familiarity with soldering, brazing, and minor welding techniques.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
