This is a technical laboratory position with the function of providing new material solutions for the design of new products. The polymer scientist in this position will synthesize and characterize new polymers as well as assess their suitability for application in various product areas (inks, coatings, pigment). The role involves scouting for new material concepts for suitability via literature, patents, etc., to develop approaches that can be utilized in current and future products. The scientist will synthesize new polymers/materials to create prototypes for application feasibility testing and relate the structures and chemical properties of polymers and/or composite materials to define links to critical to quality performance factors. Additionally, the scientist will develop and monitor process conditions during the development of raw materials that provides for understanding of process dynamics as well as control and ability to reproduce key material parameters. Proper statistical tools will be used in assessing the boundaries or limits of analytical measures, and the scientist will administer the appropriate project management systems to maintain reporting and status updates. Summarizing data in reports and/or presentations at regular intervals is essential, as is documenting experimental work in a lab notebook using established best practices. The scientist will ensure all ISO requirements are met and produce the necessary documentation to maintain compliance, while also following the Chemical Hygiene plan and looking for safety improvements.
