Shipping Clerks must be adaptable, as the role may involve extended shifts and weekend work, particularly during month-end needs. The Shipping Clerk is responsible for following established work instructions and shipping procedures, which are essential for maintaining the quality and accuracy of shipments. In this role, the Shipping Clerk will read sales orders and comprehend shipping directions, assisting in the training of new employees and familiarizing them with existing processes. The position also involves processing international shipping, including documentation and logistics coordination. Shipping Clerks will assemble and fill boxes and other cartons with items designated for shipment, ensuring that labeling information and quantities are accurate to uphold product quality. Additionally, they will verify inventory levels and report any shortages to the Finished Goods team. The Shipping Clerk will interact appropriately with delivery and freight company personnel and maintain a clean and organized warehouse environment, adhering to 5S conditions. This role requires physical stamina, as it involves lifting up to 50 lbs with assistance and may include pushing, pulling, squatting, reaching, bending, carrying, and standing for extended periods. The Shipping Clerk must also wear steel-toe shoes or boots that meet OSHA standards. Overall, this position is vital for the smooth operation of shipping processes at Topcon, contributing to the company's mission of developing a sustainable future through innovative productivity tools.

Responsibilities

  • Follows established work instructions and shipping procedures.
  • Reads sales orders and understands shipping directions given.
  • Assists in training new employees or new processes with existing staff.
  • Processes international shipping, documentation, and logistics coordination.
  • Assembles and fills boxes and other cartons with items that need to be shipped.
  • Ensures labeling information and quantity accuracy when preparing shipments.
  • Verifies inventory and reports any shortages to the Finished Goods team.
  • Inserts items into containers using spacers, fillers, and protective padding.
  • Processes orders based on the preferred/routed shipping system (e.g., UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc.).
  • Interacts appropriately with delivery and freight company personnel.
  • Maintains appropriate 5S conditions, keeping warehouse aisles and locations clean and organized.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED preferred.
  • General warehouse experience; shipping experience is preferred.
  • High attention to detail and ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Good math knowledge.
  • Ability to work effectively with team members, other departments, and management.
  • Self-starter, motivated, and engaged.
  • Good communication skills.
  • SAP experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word) is preferred.
  • Good attendance and work ethic.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous forklift experience is helpful.
