About the position

The position of Wildlife Officer at the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency involves professional wildlife management work, focusing on the implementation of wildlife management practices in a moderate-sized wildlife area. The role includes supervising subordinates, conducting public education programs, enforcing wildlife laws, and managing wildlife populations and habitats. The officer will also engage in public relations, training, and collaboration with other law enforcement agencies to ensure effective wildlife management and conservation efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the activities of assigned workers on Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs).
  • Lead maintenance and repair of agency equipment and buildings on assigned WMAs.
  • Plan and conduct on-the-job training for assigned subordinates.
  • Promote and assist with hunting and boating safety education programs.
  • Serve as the state's witness at hearings and court cases.
  • Provide information to the public on wildlife resources and regulations.
  • Conduct inspections for law violations related to boating, hunting, and fishing.
  • Manage field trials and hunts on WMAs.
  • Conduct wildlife inventories and surveys in assigned areas.
  • Assist in determining feasibility of stocking fish in various water bodies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in wildlife or fisheries management, wildlife biology, or a related field, or one year of experience as a Wildlife Officer with the State of Tennessee.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Must pass a physical examination and psychological evaluation.
  • Must have visual acuity of 20/100 in each eye without glasses, corrected to 20/30 or better with lenses.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in public speaking and community outreach.
  • Knowledge of local wildlife laws and regulations.
  • Experience in wildlife habitat management.
