About the position

The Academic Advisor at Loyola University Chicago plays a crucial role in supporting undergraduate students in the Quinlan School of Business. This position involves providing academic guidance, assisting with course selection, and promoting student success and retention. The advisor will work closely with a diverse student population, ensuring they are informed about university resources and are on track for graduation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic advising to approximately 200 to 250 Quinlan undergraduate students.
  • Assist students with academic discernment, choice of major and minor, and course selection.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of Loyola University Chicago and Quinlan School of Business curriculum requirements.
  • Advise specialized populations of students, such as business honors students and student athletes, while keeping detailed advising records.
  • Contribute to a friendly and inclusive environment in the advising office.
  • Assist with advising for new students and participate in orientation programming.
  • Complete regular audits to ensure students are on track for graduation and resolve issues as needed.
  • Maintain awareness of university resources available to students and provide information on how to access them.
  • Promote undergraduate student success and retention in partnership with the undergraduate team.
  • Apply FERPA regulations in discussions of student matters with families and faculty.
  • Support students on academic probation in meeting performance conditions.
  • Represent Quinlan in undergraduate admissions processes and attend recruiting events.
  • Assist with commencement and other academic ceremonies.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in College Student Personnel, Counseling, or related field required.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience with academic advising or guidance, preferably at the four-year college level.
  • Thorough knowledge of academic policies and procedures at Loyola University Chicago.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse undergraduate students and families.
  • Highly developed communication skills and ability to provide empathic advising.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work constructively in teams and independently.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, changing environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with PeopleSoft/Oracle, Navigate, PowerBI, and document imaging software.
