About The Position

The candidate will join HNTB's Creative Engagement Solutions Team, focusing on developing and delivering innovative web applications in the transportation industry. This role emphasizes collaboration, creativity, and ensuring digital applications meet accessibility standards. The ideal candidate will serve as a subject matter expert in accessibility, working on multiple projects to design, develop, and maintain accessible web applications and systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field and 3 years of relevant experience, or Master's degree in computer science or related field and 2 years of relevant experience, or 7 years of relevant experience in lieu of education.
• Strong understanding of Website Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and other accessibility standards.
• Experience in developing, testing, and implementing solutions that meet accessibility requirements.

Nice To Haves

• Experience developing solutions related to digital accessibility.
• In-depth understanding and implementation of digital accessibility standards, such as WCAG and ARIA.
• Experience using accessibility testing tools, including screen readers.
• Knowledge of creating accessible forms, navigation, and multimedia content.
• Proven experience identifying and resolving accessibility issues.
• Certifications related to accessibility, such as WAS, CPWA, CPACC, NVDA, or JAWS.
• Experience developing solutions using C# and .NET Core.
• Experience using Angular and Vue.js.
• Experience with JavaScript TypeScript, CSS, and design frameworks such as Material Design or Bootstrap.
• Experience deploying cloud-based web applications with AWS and/or Azure.
• Experience with agile development and systems engineering life cycles.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop software applications.
• Perform coding, debugging, testing, and troubleshooting throughout the application development process.
• Work closely with other engineers and stakeholders to ensure that the software meets business requirements.
• Participate in code reviews and provide feedback to other developers.
• Write technical documentation for software applications.
• Assist team members in identifying and organizing project needs and expectations.
• Utilize knowledge of development languages and systems to work on complex projects involving software, database, and system architecture design.
• Develop modern web applications using advanced programming tools and languages based on project requirements.
• Provide user support and troubleshoot complex technical problems with legacy applications or systems.
• Develop user interfaces for web applications based on data use and client needs.
• Learn new skills, tools, and platforms to deliver unique digital solutions.
• Implement ARIA roles and properties to enhance accessibility.
• Conduct accessibility audits and usability testing with assistive technologies.
• Collaborate with UI/UX designers to create accessible and user-friendly interfaces.
• Develop and maintain accessible HTML, CSS, and JavaScript code.
• Optimize web content for keyboard navigation and screen reader compatibility.
• Stay updated with the latest accessibility best practices and guidelines.
• Advocate for accessibility within the development team and the broader organization.
• Address accessibility issues identified through automated and manual testing.
• Ensure responsive design principles are applied to create accessible experiences across devices.
