About The Position

The Accessibility-Focused Web Developer will be part of HNTB's Creative Engagement Solutions Team, focusing on developing and maintaining accessible web applications and systems. This role emphasizes collaboration, creativity, and innovation to ensure digital solutions meet accessibility standards, particularly the Website Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). The ideal candidate will work on multiple projects, providing expertise in accessibility while collaborating with a diverse team of developers, designers, and engagement experts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field and 3 years of relevant experience, or Master's degree in computer science or related field and 2 years of relevant experience, or 7 years of relevant experience in lieu of education.
  • Strong understanding of WCAG and other accessibility standards.
  • Experience in developing, testing, and implementing solutions that meet accessibility requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing solutions related to digital accessibility.
  • In-depth understanding and implementation of digital accessibility standards, such as WCAG.
  • Familiarity with ARIA and proficiency in HTML, including HTML5 elements.
  • Experience using accessibility testing tools, including screen readers.
  • Knowledge of creating accessible forms, navigation, and multimedia content.
  • Certifications related to accessibility, such as WAS, CPWA, CPACC, NVDA, or JAWS.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop software applications.
  • Perform coding, debugging, testing, and troubleshooting throughout the application development process.
  • Work closely with other engineers and stakeholders to ensure that the software meets business requirements.
  • Participate in code reviews and provide feedback to other developers.
  • Write technical documentation for software applications.
  • Conduct accessibility audits and usability testing with assistive technologies.
  • Implement ARIA roles and properties to enhance accessibility.
  • Collaborate with UI/UX designers to create accessible and user-friendly interfaces.
  • Optimize web content for keyboard navigation and screen reader compatibility.
  • Stay updated with the latest accessibility best practices and guidelines.
