About the position

The Account Executive Officer (AEO) for National Property at Travelers is a pivotal role that focuses on providing tailored property protection solutions for high-value, complex risks across various industries. This position requires a strong partnership with agents and brokers to deliver coverage for both new and renewal business, ensuring that customer needs are met effectively. As an AEO, you will be recognized as a technical resource, leveraging your decisiveness and attention to detail to build and maintain relationships that drive results. Your ability to independently assess complex risks and navigate challenging markets will be crucial in contributing to the profitability and success of Travelers. In this role, you will manage the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business. This includes underwriting and skillfully negotiating complex customer accounts to minimize risk while maximizing profitability. You may also be involved in negotiating and procuring reinsurance for these complex accounts. Additionally, you will facilitate the placement of foreign admitted policies and serve as a resource to field Account Executives regarding global underwriting capabilities. Your responsibilities will also encompass business development activities for global underwriting services. Building and nurturing relationships with internal partners across the business unit and the enterprise will be essential for creating effective sales plans and identifying cross-selling opportunities. You will also be expected to maintain strong relationships with external partners by regularly meeting with agents and brokers to market and sell Travelers products, aiming to write and retain accounts that align with our risk appetite. Identifying and capturing new business opportunities through consultative marketing and sales skills will be a key aspect of your role. You will independently develop and execute agency sales plans and frequently collaborate with your Managing Director to create regional or group sales strategies. Additionally, you may assist in training and mentoring less experienced Account Executives, contributing to the overall growth and development of the team.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business.
  • Underwrite and skillfully negotiate complex customer accounts to minimize risk and maximize profitability.
  • Negotiate and procure reinsurance to underwrite complex accounts as needed.
  • Facilitate the placement of foreign admitted policies and serve as a resource for global underwriting capabilities.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with internal partners to create sales plans and identify cross-selling opportunities.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with external partners by meeting with agents and brokers to market and sell Travelers products.
  • Identify and capture new business opportunities using consultative marketing and sales skills.
  • Independently develop and execute agency sales plans in collaboration with the Managing Director.
  • Assist in the training and mentoring of less experienced Account Executives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Six to eight years of relevant underwriting experience with experience in National Property.
  • Deep knowledge of property-related products, the regulatory environment, and the local insurance market.
  • Deep financial acumen.
  • Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to proactively identify underwriting, marketing, or financial challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to successfully negotiate in difficult situations with agents and brokers.
  • CPCU designation.
  • Four years of underwriting experience.
