About the position

The Account Executive/Underwriter for Large Property at Travelers Insurance is a pivotal role that focuses on providing tailored property protection solutions for high-value, complex risks across various industries. This position is based in Overland Park, Kansas, and is integral to the National Property division, which is dedicated to managing the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business. The Account Executive will partner with agents and brokers to deliver coverage for both new and renewal business, ensuring that customer needs are met effectively. In this role, the Account Executive is expected to be decisive and detail-oriented, with a strong ability to build relationships both internally and externally. This relationship-building is crucial for driving results and contributing to the overall profitability and success of Travelers. The Account Executive will underwrite and skillfully negotiate customer accounts, aiming to minimize risk while maximizing profitability. This may also involve negotiating and procuring reinsurance for complex accounts, as well as facilitating the placement of foreign admitted policies. The position requires regular interaction with agents and brokers, necessitating travel to meetings to market and sell Travelers products. The Account Executive will also be responsible for identifying and capturing new business opportunities through consultative marketing and sales skills, developing and executing agency sales plans, and performing other duties as assigned. This role is not only about managing existing accounts but also about actively seeking new opportunities to expand the business.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business.
  • Underwrite and skillfully negotiate customer accounts to minimize risk and maximize profitability.
  • Occasionally negotiate and procure reinsurance to underwrite complex accounts.
  • Facilitate the placement of foreign admitted policies and assist in business development activities for global underwriting services.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with internal partners to create sales plans and identify cross-selling opportunities.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with external partners by regularly meeting with agents and brokers to market and sell Travelers products.
  • Identify and capture new business opportunities using consultative marketing and sales skills.
  • Develop and execute agency sales plans and execute region/group sales plans.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Two years of underwriting experience.
  • Three to five years of relevant underwriting experience with experience in National Property.
  • Knowledge of property-related products, the regulatory environment, and the local insurance market.
  • Deep financial acumen.
  • Strong critical thinking skills to identify underwriting, marketing, or financial challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills to negotiate with agents and brokers.
  • CPCU designation.
