About the position

The Account Executive/Underwriter for National Property at Travelers Indemnity Company is a pivotal role that focuses on providing tailored property protection solutions for high-value, complex risks across various industries. This position is designed for individuals who are decisive, detail-oriented, and possess strong relationship-building skills. The Account Executive will partner with agents and brokers to deliver coverage for both new and renewal business, ensuring that customer needs are met effectively. The role requires a deep understanding of underwriting principles, risk assessment, and the ability to negotiate terms that minimize risk while maximizing profitability. In this position, the Account Executive will manage the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business. This involves underwriting and negotiating customer accounts, as well as occasionally procuring reinsurance for complex accounts. The role also includes facilitating the placement of foreign admitted policies and serving as a resource for field Account Executives on global underwriting capabilities. Building and maintaining relationships with internal partners and external agents and brokers is crucial, as these relationships will help in creating sales plans and identifying cross-selling opportunities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in underwriting, particularly in National Property, and will be expected to identify and capture new business opportunities through consultative marketing and sales skills. The role also involves developing and executing agency sales plans and performing other duties as assigned. This position is not only about managing existing accounts but also about actively seeking new business opportunities to contribute to the overall success of Travelers.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business.
  • Underwrite and skillfully negotiate customer accounts to minimize risk and maximize profitability.
  • Occasionally negotiate and procure reinsurance to underwrite complex accounts.
  • Facilitate the placement of foreign admitted policies and assist in global underwriting services.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with internal partners to create sales plans and identify cross-selling opportunities.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with external partners by meeting in person with agents and brokers.
  • Identify and capture new business opportunities using consultative marketing and sales skills.
  • Develop and execute agency sales plans and execute region/group sales plans.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Two years of underwriting experience.
  • Three to five years of relevant underwriting experience with experience in National Property.
  • Knowledge of property-related products, the regulatory environment, and the local insurance market.
  • Deep financial acumen.
  • Strong critical thinking skills to identify underwriting, marketing, or financial challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills for successful negotiation with agents and brokers.
  • CPCU designation.
