As an Account Executive / Underwriter for Small Commercial at Travelers, you will play a crucial role in managing the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business in a high-volume, fast-paced environment. This position requires a balance of individual account underwriting within your assigned portfolio, where you will underwrite and skillfully negotiate property and casualty accounts to minimize risk while maximizing profitability. You will ensure underwriting quality and profitability through the application of appropriate levels of underwriting analysis based on risk complexity, allowing you to accept, decline, modify, or rate and quote accounts effectively. In this role, you will cultivate and maintain relationships with internal partners within the business unit and across the enterprise to create sales plans and identify cross-selling opportunities. Additionally, you will foster and maintain relationships with external partners by regularly meeting in person with agents and brokers to market and sell Travelers products, aiming to write and retain accounts consistent with our risk appetite. This position will require travel to such meetings, and you will partner with Sales Executives to identify and write new business opportunities using consultative marketing and sales skills. Collaboration with underwriting leadership will also be a key aspect of your responsibilities, along with performing other duties as assigned. The ideal candidate for this position will possess a Bachelor's degree and have three to five years of relevant underwriting experience, particularly in commercial lines. A strong knowledge of commercial lines products is essential, along with strong critical thinking skills to proactively identify underwriting, marketing, or financial challenges. You should be able to analyze available information to make timely decisions that align with our risk appetite. Excellent communication skills are necessary for successful negotiations with agents and brokers, and a CPCU designation is preferred.
