About the position

The position involves underwriting and managing a portfolio of complex captive insurance programs within the Specialty Group Captives (SGC) segment of Travelers. The role focuses on profitability, growth, and retention of business while fostering relationships with external partners and internal teams. It is ideal for individuals looking to advance their underwriting skills in a challenging environment.

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business.
  • Underwrite and skillfully negotiate complex customer accounts to minimize risk and maximize profitability.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with external partners by regularly meeting with agents and brokers to market and sell Travelers products.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal partners to create sales plans and identify cross-selling opportunities.
  • Identify and capture new business opportunities using consultative marketing and sales skills.
  • Independently develop and execute agency sales plans and partner with the Managing Director to develop region/group sales plans.
  • Assist in the training and mentoring of less experienced Account Executives.
  • Travel nationally and internationally as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Two years of underwriting experience.
  • Three to five years of relevant underwriting experience with experience in commercial lines.
  • Knowledge of commercial lines underwriting casualty products and the broader insurance market.
  • Strong critical thinking skills to identify underwriting, marketing, or financial challenges.
  • Strong communication skills to negotiate with agents and brokers.
  • CPCU designation.
