About the position

The Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency is seeking candidates for the positions of Accountant Auditor I and Accountant Auditor II. The Accountant Auditor I position is an entry-level role that involves performing professional accounting and auditing fiscal analysis work under close supervision. Responsibilities include preparing various accounting reports, reviewing accounting methods, and providing staff assistance to the fiscal manager. The Accountant Auditor II position is a journey-level role that requires more independence and involves coordinating and overseeing accounting activities, maintaining fiscal records, and providing lead direction to staff. Both positions require knowledge of governmental accounting policies and procedures, as well as the ability to analyze and prepare financial reports.

Responsibilities

  • Perform professional accounting and auditing fiscal analysis work.
  • Prepare a variety of accounting, statistical, and narrative reports.
  • Review accounting methods and practices of County departments and special districts.
  • Direct complex accounting and related business management work.
  • Provide staff assistance to the fiscal manager.
  • Maintain accuracy of general, revenue, and expenditure ledgers.
  • Assist in annual budget preparation and monitor budget activities.
  • Analyze and investigate variances between actual and budgeted expenditures.
  • Examine and audit accounting records and financial statements.
  • Prepare financial statements and special reports as assigned.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to graduation from college with a major in accounting or a closely related field, including at least fifteen (15) semester units in accounting.
  • Two (2) years of experience equivalent to an Accounting Technician with Shasta County.
  • Professional level accounting or auditing experience may substitute for college course work on a year-for-year basis.
  • Possession of a valid California driver's license.
