About the position

The Accountant position is responsible for ensuring a reasonable level of assurance for financial activities and transactions within the organization. This role involves daily management of financial documents, including entering invoice amounts into journals, tracking fiscal activities, and maintaining compliance with programmatic requirements. The Accountant will also develop agency budgets, procure goods and services, and ensure adherence to federal regulations and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Enter invoice amounts daily into journals for all business units by object code.
  • Review all invoices submitted to the agency office from senior centers and post them to the correct journals.
  • Track all financial documents to keep the department informed on the status of each fiscal activity.
  • Complete daily submissions to the Arizona Nutrition Network.
  • Maintain programmatic requirements such as liability insurance and sanitation permits for all senior centers.
  • Complete the annual Underwriting Exposure Summary and conduct physical inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Follow up on various OOC programs for financial documents submitted by the agency office.
  • Procure goods/services by ordering food and office supplies, submitting necessary financial documents.
  • Submit RFPs and/or Professional Service Agreements as needed.
  • Develop agency budgets for General Funds and External Funds, including budget revisions and expenditure reports.
  • Review budget balances to ensure all funds are spent by the end of the fiscal year.
  • Ensure compliance with principles, policies, procedures, and regulations of Federal grants.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
  • One year of work experience in Accounting.
  • Knowledge of Federal OMB Circulars and Navajo Nation procurement process.
  • FMIS certification and Procurement 6B rollout required.
  • Must obtain Navajo Nation Vehicle Operator's Permit within 90 days of employment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Proficient with computerized accounting software.
