About the position

The Activities Director at Ayden Healthcare of Waterville is responsible for planning, organizing, developing, and implementing activities that enhance the physical, mental, and psycho-social well-being of residents in a long-term care setting. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while fostering relationships with residents and their families. The Activities Director will oversee the Activity Department, including staff supervision and budget management, to create a vibrant and engaging environment for residents.

Responsibilities

  • Develop relationships with patients, residents, and their families.
  • Develop an activity program based on identified interests that complies with all Federal and State regulations for Activities.
  • Supervise and evaluate the Activity Assistant and Activity Aides.
  • Responsible for scheduling and payroll monitoring of the Activity Department.
  • Complete and oversee all required documentation such as MDS, RAPs, care plans, interest surveys, and progress notes.
  • Collaborate with the Activity Assistant on hiring, orientation, supervision, and ensuring yearly training completion for Activity Assistants.
  • Oversee the development and evaluation of programming and calendar based on interests and specialty programs.
  • Assist with budget development and oversee expenses.
  • Complete and oversee the purchase of supplies for programming.
  • Plan and evaluate community outings and large social events.
  • Implement a 1:1 Visiting Program for residents not engaged in group programming.
  • Participate in care plan meetings and facility/department meetings.
  • Assist in the dining room and ensure compliance with Resident Council regulations.
  • Contact new residents within seventy-two (72) hours of admission and conduct interviews.
  • Post current calendars of events on Activity boards and in resident rooms.

Requirements

  • Must be an occupational therapist, therapy assistant, or therapeutic recreation specialist; or have two years of experience in a social or recreational program within the last five years, with one year full-time in a patient activities program.
  • Eligible for certification by a recognized accrediting body as a therapeutic recreation specialist or activities professional, or have completed at least 90 hours of training covering activities programs from a recognized institution.
  • Activity Director Certificate/Recreational Therapy License is required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as an Activity Director.
