About the position

The Activity Director is responsible for motivating residents to engage in recreational activities that enhance their mental and physical well-being. This role involves assessing residents' needs, coordinating activities, and creating a cheerful environment within the nursing home. The director will also supervise activity programs and ensure that residents are encouraged to participate in community life.

Responsibilities

  • Assessing residents to determine appropriate activities based on their needs and interests.
  • Encouraging residents to participate in activities that promote communication and well-being.
  • Coordinating the activity program with volunteers and other groups, integrating it into the facility's overall routine.
  • Planning special events, parties, entertainment, games, and crafts, and encouraging resident participation.
  • Maintaining a pleasant nursing home environment through decorations and personal displays.
  • Motivating residents to engage with life and the community.
  • Supervising overall activity programs and providing special attention to residents who need it.
  • Ensuring the activity area is well-maintained before and after each activity.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D certificate.
  • Graduate of Activity Director Course as required by state.
  • Two years in a social or recreational program within the last five years, with one year full-time in a patient program in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience in various activities and handicrafts.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
