About the position

The Advanced Manufacturing Engineer (AME) is responsible for planning, directing and coordinating the implementation of manufacturing processes into an industrial plant. The AME works to develop, implement, and improve manufacturing strategies by utilizing their knowledge of product design, materials, tooling and equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards. The role requires the ability to create plans that optimize workforce utilization, space requirements, and workflow. The AME uses product requirements to create specifications and options for tooling and equipment and then works with vendors to procure, install, and implement them into the manufacturing facility.

Responsibilities

  • Pursue new technologies and efficiencies in controls, robotics (including Cobots), 3D vision, AGV’s and various applications and incorporate them into company strategy.
  • Work closely with engineering, program management, commercial teams, suppliers, and plant personnel in a team atmosphere to achieve company goals.
  • Develop solutions in a lab environment in pursuit of high-performance engineering systems.
  • Development and execution of system productivity improvements and cost savings initiatives that support the business objectives.
  • Research and evaluate economic feasibility to implement cost effective upgrades to the equipment and facilities.
  • Facilitate communication of technical and business information within the organization.
  • Provide manufacturing feasibility assessments for product design, engineering changes, scope changes and quality concerns.
  • Facilitate the implementation of production equipment/tooling into the manufacturing facility and any corresponding technical training.
  • Project manage the procurement and acceptance of required equipment & tooling.
  • Support customer part needs through pilot, testing, run-at-rate and internal process sign offs.
  • Complete Process PFMEA and collaborate with Quality and Safety Teams to mitigate risks.
  • Assess the product, process, equipment, and tooling strategies for potential ergonomic concerns and manage action items to resolve.
  • Maintain and adhere to timeline and execute open issues as assigned.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and process concerns.
  • Coordinate all documentation for recommended Periodic Maintenance and spare parts for all new equipment.
  • Develop process flow and line layout requirements.
  • Define capital equipment and tooling required and maintain adherence to the budget of the program.
  • Create and support continuous improvement and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (preferably Mechanical, Electrical or Mechatronics) or Associates Degree is acceptable with equivalent experience/training.
  • 10 years of experience in the Automotive industry.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience preferably in a manufacturing plant and/or automotive industry.
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing, advanced manufacturing engineering, process engineering, tooling, or similar role.
  • Ideal experience in automotive plastic assembly processes, including ultra-sonic welding, robotic applications, automated feeding and insertion of clips and screws.
  • Strong knowledge of Mechanical, Hydraulic and Pneumatic systems.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), MS Project, SharePoint, and Teams.
  • Ability to present complex information and convey messages in a manner appropriate for different levels of our internal management and our customers.
  • Experience developing time estimates for all work elements utilizing knowledge of creating workflow, line balancing, OEE, and takt time.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, PLC Programming, and Automation is a plus.
  • Candidates must demonstrate technical and program launch management skills, including managing a budget and timing.
  • Understands and demonstrates ability to work with and improve documented manufacturing standards.
  • Familiar with entire life cycle program including development, launch and production.
