About the position
The Affordable Housing Program Specialist at Brookfield Properties will play a crucial role in overseeing and executing the affordable housing compliance process for a diverse portfolio of residential properties. This position is essential in ensuring that all properties comply with various affordable housing programs, including the Affordable Dwelling Units (ADU) program, Workforce Dwelling Units (WDU), Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program, and tax-exempt bond programs. The specialist will be responsible for analyzing, processing, and monitoring compliance activities, providing strategic guidance to on-site staff, and ensuring that all regulatory requirements are met. In this role, the specialist will support on-site associates by providing ongoing training and guidance, working collaboratively with property managers, leasing teams, and residents. Clear and consistent communication with on-site teams is vital, and the specialist will be expected to visit properties within their assigned portfolio at least once a month to meet with applicants and residents. The position requires the use of affordable housing software to collect necessary documentation, determine eligibility for applicants, and process lease-related paperwork in partnership with the on-site team. The specialist will also ensure that all affordable housing program requirements and applicable HUD/agency regulations are monitored regularly, maintaining a thorough understanding of assigned programs and general landlord-tenant laws. Conducting annual income recertifications, updating waiting lists, and maintaining organized documentation are key responsibilities. The role involves assisting with the processing of Section 8/Housing Choice Vouchers and ensuring timely completion of rent increase requests. Overall, the Affordable Housing Program Specialist will be instrumental in maintaining compliance and supporting the mission of Brookfield Properties to provide quality housing options for all residents.
Responsibilities

Requirements
- Associate Degree in Property Management or related discipline or equivalent experience.
- 1 - 2 years of experience in Affordable Housing Program Certification Processing.
- 1 - 2 years of experience in Property Management, including leasing, bookkeeping, and operations.
- Affordable Housing Training and Certification.
Nice-to-haves
- 3 - 4 years of experience can offset minimum educational requirements for this position.
