About The Position

The After School Counselor position at the DeVos-Blum Family YMCA is responsible for providing leadership and ensuring the safety of children during planned activities. The role involves direct supervision of children, maintaining a safe and healthy environment, and fostering positive relationships with both children and parents. This is a temporary position that requires active participation in daily activities and adherence to safety protocols.

Requirements

• Must possess current CPR and First Aid licensing.
• Must have at least two years of child care experience.
• Excellent leadership skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Desire and ability to work with children of all ages.
• Demonstrated responsibility and dependability.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to sit, stand, or maintain physical activity for extended periods.
• Must exhibit patience and understanding.
• Must be alert at all times and keep safety in mind.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in performing arts, day camp counseling, teen camp counseling, sport camp, or aquatic camp.

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe and healthy environment for children.
• Ensure children are aware of rules and daily routines.
• Attend staff meetings and required training sessions.
• Assist in planning and implementing daily activities.
• Take responsibility for the quality of supplies and materials.
• Report suspicions of child abuse to authorities.
• Ensure proper sign-in/out procedures for children.
• Report accidents to the Supervisor and complete health logs.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety in the childcare area.
• Establish relationships with each child and treat them with respect.
• Work towards positive parent/staff relations.
• Participate in member retention, special events, and fundraising.
• Complete all paperwork clearly and concisely.
• Stay updated on emergency procedures and family center policies.
