About the position

The Director of Ambulatory Finance is a critical leadership role responsible for overseeing the financial operations of UCI Health's ambulatory services. This position will report to the Vice President of Physician Enterprise and dotted line to the Vice President of Ambulatory, ensuring effective financial management and support for various teams.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and executes financial strategies to support UCI Health Ambulatory services
  • Oversees Ambulatory department budgeting processes, working closely with operational leaders to ensure accuracy and alignment with organizational goals
  • Monitors financial performance against budgets and forecasts, identifying variances and implementing corrective actions as needed
  • Provides financial analysis and recommendations to support decision-making by senior leadership and operational teams
  • Collaborates with other finance and accounting teams to streamline financial processes and improve efficiency
  • Prepares and presents financial reports and updates to executive management and stakeholders

Requirements

  • Seven (7) years of progressively responsible work experience in a leadership position in a medical practice setting, healthcare administration or closely related field
  • Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
  • Knowledge of process improvement methodologies, including planning, setting priorities, systematic performance assessment, implementation based on such assessment and maintaining achieved improvement
  • Experience with financial planning and decision support systems in a Health Care environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Excellent understanding of healthcare finance, financial and analytical skills and ability to develop financial models using Excel, Access or other applications
  • Excellent strategic planning skills to develop long and short range goals and objectives
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of strategic planning and change management principles
  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Ability to work autonomously and use independent sound judgment
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the UC Irvine Health Affairs and work effectively with diverse stakeholders, especially physicians
  • Ability to accurately analyze complex financial and accounting data and effectively communicate it to a wide variety of executives, faculty, and other constituents in lay terms
  • Ability to accomplish results and effectively integrate functions with business plans
  • Consistently demonstrates and encourages a commitment to quality, customer-centeredness, productivity and continuous improvement

Nice-to-haves

  • Significant experience with financial planning and decision support systems (Strata, Epsi or Axiom)
  • Knowledge of University and Medical Center organizations, policies, procedures and forms
  • Experience in an academic medical center environment
