About the position

The Field Service Engineer (FSE) at Veolia Water Technologies & Solutions will be responsible for providing routine to complex field service support for the Sievers® brand total organic carbon (TOC) analytical instruments and accessories. This role primarily serves customers within the greater Phoenix, AZ metropolitan area, with occasional support extending to other regions in the US and Canada. The FSE will engage in various tasks including maintenance, verification, validation, repair, and calibration of analytical instruments, as well as troubleshooting operational issues. The position requires the engineer to reside within Maricopa, Pinal, or Gila Counties, AZ, or the metropolitan Phoenix area, ensuring they are within a one-hour drive of the Phoenix International Airport. The ideal candidate will be self-directed, detail-oriented, and capable of organizing their own planning and scheduling of services while managing multiple priorities. A scientific approach to the operation and maintenance of analytical instrumentation is essential, along with proficiency in completing administrative responsibilities. Effective communication, both written and verbal, is crucial for success in this role, as is a strong technical background in field support and customer service, particularly in ultra-pure water applications or laboratory environments. The FSE will be expected to travel to customer sites to perform preventive maintenance and related services on TOC equipment, plan and confirm customer services, maintain administrative duties, and respond to on-demand contract services. The role also involves writing clear reports for customers, participating in sales rhythm calls, and collaborating with the sales team to identify new service opportunities. Compliance with safety regulations and company policies is mandatory, as is the operation of a company vehicle for travel to various customer locations.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to customer sites and perform preventive maintenance and related services on TOC equipment.
  • Plan, schedule, and confirm customer services, including coordination of travel and parts shipments.
  • Maintain administrative duties, parts inventory, and relevant training records.
  • Take customer calls and participate in territory sales rhythm calls and service team meetings.
  • Respond to on-demand contract services with 3 or 7 business day response commitments for troubleshooting and repair.
  • Write clear and concise reports for customers.
  • Assist with special projects and new hire training as assigned by supervisors.
  • Work closely with Sales to provide insights into new instrument and service opportunities and upsell services and consumables at existing customer sites.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety aspects on the job, including the operation and maintenance of an assigned company vehicle and adherence to Veolia EHS policies.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in a Science, Technical, or Engineering discipline; or equivalent education.
  • At least 3 years of work experience in ultra-pure water applications or servicing and/or operating analytical instrumentation in a lab environment.
  • Strong technical, mathematical, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to prioritize various tasks such as servicing multiple instruments and administrative duties.
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to use processes to find root causes.
  • General knowledge of electrical equipment, chemistry, and safety protocols.
  • Vision, manual dexterity, and coordination sufficient to service instruments and handle electrical equipment.
  • Computer proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, and basic network and database knowledge.
  • Ability to use ordinary hand tools, calibrated tools, and analytical instrumentation, as well as handle chemically aggressive fluids.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, or Physics; or equivalent education.
  • At least 1 year of work experience in ultra-pure water applications or servicing and/or operating analytical instrumentation in a lab environment.
