About The Position

Chewy is seeking an innovative Android Developer to join our Native Android Mobile Apps Team. This role involves influencing all stages of app development, from concept to launch, in a fast-paced, agile environment. The ideal candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to create seamless experiences for millions of customers, focusing on high-quality product development and continuous learning.

Requirements

  • Proven Android development experience for more than 3 years with Kotlin, including hands-on experience with consumer-facing Android applications.
  • Expertise in the entire mobile app development lifecycle—from development and testing to release and ongoing maintenance.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate ideas clearly in a collaborative team environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Android SDK, testing frameworks, and building consumer-facing applications.
  • Experience with modern Android architecture (e.g., MVVM), Dependency Injection, and standard methodologies.
  • A passion for staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in Android development.
  • Familiarity with Git workflows, pull requests, and continuous integration.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with Jetpack Compose for UI development.
  • Contributions to open-source projects or speaking engagements at developer conferences.
  • Knowledge of web technologies and service-oriented architectures.
  • A deep sense of satisfaction when building elegant solutions and following standard methodologies.
  • Experience with GitHub actions and CI/CD.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and enhance Chewy's hybrid Kotlin and WebView based Android eCommerce app.
  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams (Design, Product, Backend) to define, architect, and ship innovative new features.
  • Implement innovative technologies and best practices using modern Android architecture and third-party libraries.
  • Participate in architectural discussions, providing input on improvements to core Android libraries and frameworks.
  • Continuously explore and integrate new mobile technologies to improve app performance and user experience.
  • Work with various data sources and APIs (gRPC, REST) to ensure seamless integration across the application.
  • Address WebView issues and work with cross-platform technologies.
