About the position

M/I Homes has been a leader in the homebuilding industry for over 40 years, dedicated to providing outstanding quality and superior design. The Appraisal Underwriter position is a critical role within the MI Financial Appraisal Underwriting Department, focusing on the review and assessment of residential appraisals submitted by third-party appraisers. The Underwriter will be responsible for ensuring that appraisals comply with MI Financial guidelines and government agency requirements. This involves a thorough examination of the Appraisal Report and the Collateral Analytics Report to identify any errors or deficiencies. The Underwriter will communicate directly with appraisers to resolve issues and obtain necessary revisions, as well as liaise with internal partners to inform them of appraisal approval decisions. The role requires a strong understanding of government underwriting guidelines and the ability to complete underwriting reviews efficiently. The Underwriter will also participate in M/I Financial and government agency training programs to obtain certifications for Conventional, FHA, and VA Appraisal Underwriting. This position is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, possesses strong communication skills, and is capable of managing a workload with a sense of urgency to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Review and assess residential appraisals provided by third-party appraisers.
  • Utilize government underwriting guidelines and collateral analytics to approve appraisals.
  • Communicate with appraisers to resolve errors or deficiencies in appraisals and obtain revisions.
  • Advise internal partners of decisions regarding the approval of appraisals.
  • Complete necessary training programs to obtain appraisal underwriting certifications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • 3 years of mortgage and appraisal underwriting experience.
