About the position

The Architect role at Michael James Remodeling involves providing design services to clients, managing project designs from initial meetings to completion, and producing technical documents. The Architect collaborates closely with the Design Manager and other team members, ensuring that all designs meet company standards and client expectations. This position also requires maintaining AOR licensing and overseeing the architectural design documents submitted to relevant jurisdictions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide design services to clients and advise the Design Coordinator.
  • Manage assigned project designs from preliminary design to completion.
  • Produce preliminary and working design documents for production handoff.
  • Coordinate closely with the Design Manager and other design staff.
  • Work as the Architect of Record (AOR) when necessary.
  • Review and stamp architectural design documents as needed.
  • Research and specify materials for unique projects.
  • Conduct initial client interviews to document design goals and expectations.
  • Attend Preliminary Design Meetings and document changes to client goals.
  • Produce as-built drawings and prepare floor plans and elevation drawings.
  • Design cabinet layouts and collaborate with suppliers.
  • Review designs for construction feasibility and cost implications.
  • Develop working drawings including mechanical plans and schedules.
  • Create 3D architectural features and color renderings as necessary.
  • Perform 3D animation walkthroughs of design plans with clients.
  • Maintain current knowledge of construction codes and building practices.
  • Participate in weekly design review meetings and document time spent on tasks.

Requirements

  • Licensed Architect or non-registered graduate with 8 to 10 years of experience in Architecture.
  • Experience in residential architecture, particularly remodeling.
  • Strong understanding of building codes and requirements.
  • Proficient in Revit or ability to transfer AutoCAD knowledge to Revit.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Buildertrend.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with residential design-build projects.
  • Creative imagination and practical understanding of construction.
  • Hand drawing skills and good design sense for space planning.
