About the position

Architectural Resources Group (ARG) is seeking an Architectural Historian / Preservation Planner for a full-time position in their Los Angeles office. The role focuses on Architectural History and Historic Preservation Planning, requiring a strong background in these fields. The ideal candidate will have a Master's Degree in Historic Preservation or a closely related field and at least three years of relevant work experience. This position emphasizes research, writing, and collaboration within a dynamic team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and writing for historic resource surveys and context statements.
  • Evaluate and document the significance of historic resources for eligibility at local, state, and national levels.
  • Collaborate with team members on various preservation planning tasks.
  • Present project findings in public settings as needed.
  • Assist in drafting historic context statements and other documentation.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Historic Preservation or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of three years of post-graduate work experience in a similar position.
  • Meet the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualifications Standards in Architectural History.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Outstanding research, writing, proofreading, and editing skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficiency with GIS software.
  • Experience with environmental review under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • Experience with database development or cultural resource documentation databases.
