About the position

As an Area Instrumentation Engineer, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the reliability of plant operations across the region. Your primary responsibility will be to provide technical expertise in instrumentation, ensuring that all equipment operates efficiently and effectively. You will be tasked with recommending and implementing technical solutions aimed at extending the life of equipment, troubleshooting instrumentation issues, and developing preventative maintenance plans for all facilities. This position requires a strong commitment to safety, health, environmental, and quality standards, which you will ensure compliance with across all 40 plants in your region. In this role, you will provide comprehensive technical support for all instrumentation equipment, including PLC/DCS hardware, control wiring, I/O devices, transmitters, positioners, control valves, pneumatic systems, and analytical equipment. You will be responsible for identifying, defining, estimating, budgeting, developing, planning, and executing instrumentation turnaround maintenance activities, as well as improvement and re-life projects. Additionally, you will represent the region's instrumentation reliability interests during the proposal and project commercialization processes, ensuring that all technical specifications and spare parts requirements are met. Your leadership will be essential in fostering a culture of safety and reliability within the team. You will support the Area Production Director in achieving key outcomes related to safety, reliability, efficiency, cost, and customer service. This includes conducting reliability assessments, ensuring the implementation of maintenance strategies, and developing critical equipment quality control plans. You will also lead the training and certification processes for area technicians, ensuring compliance with NFPA 70E regulations and promoting best practices across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise for instrumentation to enhance plant reliability.
  • Recommend and implement technical solutions for extending equipment life.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve instrumentation issues across all plants.
  • Develop and execute preventative maintenance plans for all facilities.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, health, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Support the Area Production Director in achieving key outcomes in safety and efficiency.
  • Conduct reliability assessments and monitor action plans to mitigate risks.
  • Review and approve local electrical equipment and instrumentation systems PMs and work instructions.
  • Ensure reliable operation of electrical equipment and instrumentation by maintaining up-to-date condition-based data.
  • Lead the rectification of failed electrical equipment and instrumentation, including root cause analysis.
  • Identify and execute instrumentation turnaround maintenance activities and improvement projects.
  • Provide estimation and execution support for large capital improvement projects.
  • Lead training and certification processes for technicians regarding electrical safety regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or relevant engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of ten years' experience in instrumentation.
  • Experience in installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of PLC/DCS systems and I/O devices.
  • Proven experience working with electrical circuits and equipment at 110V and below; qualification for 480V systems is a plus.
  • Minimum of five years' experience in an operational and engineering environment.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills at all levels.
  • Experience with SAP PM and professional qualifications are preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Licensing in electrical engineering is preferred.
  • Six Sigma qualification is a plus.
