About The Position

The Area Leader for the 2nd Shift at Indiana Automotive Fasteners is responsible for overseeing the department's operations, ensuring safety, quality, delivery, and cost (SQDC) objectives are met. This role involves leading a team, coordinating training, managing workflow, and facilitating communication within the department. The Area Leader acts as a key point of contact for team members, driving continuous improvement initiatives and maintaining compliance with safety and quality standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's Degree or equivalent preferred.
  • 3 years of related experience or training; 5+ years preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Windows environment.
  • Experience with Kanban and using calipers for measuring parts.
  • Ability to perform basic troubleshooting activities with minimal direction after training.
  • Familiarity with industrial equipment and mechanical tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and quality specifications.
  • Strong organizational and self-motivated skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in manufacturing environments for 5+ years.
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles.
  • Ability to take initiative and suggest process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Support department Team Members to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Lead the department with a focus on Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC).
  • Maintain knowledge of all jobs within the department and serve as a champion of Toyota Production System (TPS) and Total Predictive Maintenance (TPM).
  • Coordinate training for new Team Members and develop cross-training plans.
  • Facilitate department Start of Shift Meetings and communicate SQDC messages and expectations.
  • Plan work assignments and assign daily tasks to promote on-time delivery.
  • Ensure that processes send only conforming products to the next process to minimize inventories.
  • Provide improvements to work instructions and procedures.
  • Determine root causes and countermeasures for product nonconformances and process problems.
  • Manage the Floor Management System and communicate results effectively.
  • Support HazMat Training and Compliance where applicable.
  • Manage abnormal conditions and communicate issues effectively.
  • Lead Area 4S+ and enforce compliance with established standards.
  • Responsible for safety communication and enforcement of compliance.
  • Audit quality and ensure work instructions are complete and accurate.
  • Manage performance of the area and team members with prompt communication to the section manager.
  • Participate in hiring new Team Members and assist in decision-making processes.
