About the position

The Area Leader is responsible for overseeing the safety, development, and supervision of team members in a manufacturing environment. This role focuses on ensuring compliance with quality standards, productivity, and health and safety protocols while promoting continuous improvement and effective communication across departments.

Responsibilities

  • Build and develop a manufacturing team to meet World Class Manufacturing (WCM) Standards.
  • Conduct daily pre-shift inspections and weekly unplanned audits.
  • Make visual inspections of emergency evacuation routes and address safety concerns immediately.
  • Complete accident investigations within 24 hours of an incident, identifying root causes and corrective actions.
  • Conduct weekly safety talks during pre-shift meetings and maintain training rosters.
  • Schedule, supervise, and coordinate team activities to meet production and quality standards.
  • Establish effective communication with other departments and conduct business professionally.
  • Plan and direct the utilization of equipment and manpower for effective results.
  • Supervise team members according to the Employee Charter and BGM Team Member Handbook policies.
  • Promote continuous improvement and cost-reduction opportunities.
  • Act on behalf of the Department Leader in their absence and assume Team Leader responsibilities when needed.
  • Attend to accidents and injuries, initiating investigations and ensuring procedure implementation.
  • Supervise Team Leaders to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Implement corrective discipline procedures and encourage professional development among team members.
  • Provide coaching, counseling, and feedback through one-on-one sessions and team meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards and operational procedures.
  • Participate in Lean activities such as 5S, Kanban, and Standardized work.
  • Track and enhance department KPIs and promote good housekeeping practices.
  • Perform other duties as required, including filling in for operators when necessary.
  • Promote and follow the Andon Procedure, documenting issues and supporting escalation processes.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a manufacturing environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Post-secondary education preferred or related experience.
  • Previous leadership role experience in an automotive manufacturing environment preferred.
