About the position

The Andy Taylor Center is part of the College of Education, Health, and Human Services at Longwood University. The Art Engagement Teacher (GA012) will provide enriching art experiences and engaging child-led learning opportunities. The Art Engagement Teacher is responsible for effectively managing a classroom of students and keeping them engaged in learning activities, while maintaining a safe and positive classroom environment. The Art Engagement Teacher is also responsible for maintaining the atelier and outdoor classroom. The Art Engagement Teacher may need to fill in as a substitute teacher in another classroom periodically at the direction of the Director.

Responsibilities

  • Provide enriching art experiences and engaging child-led learning opportunities.
  • Effectively manage a classroom of students and keep them engaged in learning activities.
  • Maintain a safe and positive classroom environment.
  • Maintain the atelier and outdoor classroom.
  • Fill in as a substitute teacher in another classroom as directed by the Director.

Requirements

  • Experience and/or training in progressive approaches to early childhood education.
  • An undergraduate and/or graduate degree in early childhood education, early childhood special education, art education, or related fields.
  • Teaching experience with children birth- five, and relevant licensure.
  • Relevant VDOE teacher licensure.
  • Ability to foster a rich and engaging art focused learning environment for children.
  • Ability to support teachers in implementing art in the classroom.
  • Ability to lead and instruct students of all ages.
  • Ability to maintain the atelier and outdoor classroom.
  • Commitment to the mission, values and vision of Longwood University and the College of Education, Health and Human Services.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to working with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff and constituents.
