Art Summer Camp Director

About the position

The Deerfield Park District is seeking a Summer Day Site Director focusing on Art Summer Camp. This role involves teaching a Design art rotation, allowing for creativity in areas such as recycled art and multi-media art. The position requires the creation of lesson plans, supply lists, and engaging with campers in a supportive environment. The director will work with a flexible team that values innovative ideas and aims to inspire young minds through art activities. Training begins the week of June 9, and the camps operate from June 16 to August 1.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement weekly schedules for camp groups.
• Supervise campers, ensuring adherence to program rules, safety, and regulations.
• Collaborate with counselors to plan and deliver engaging group activities.
• Lead age-appropriate activities.
• Address and manage camper behavior issues effectively.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and litter-free camp environment.
• Communicate with parents about camper experiences and report concerns to leadership.
• Actively participate in camp activities as a positive role model.

Requirements

• Must be at least 16 years old (15 for extended care positions).
• Ability to create a positive and supportive environment for children.
• Ability to connect effectively with preschool and elementary school-aged children.
• Demonstrate enthusiasm and a genuine commitment to working with children aged three to 8th grade.
• Ability to conduct oneself professionally and serve as a role model to the children.
• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and be on your feet for long periods of time.
• Must pass a background check.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in ceramics, drawing, painting, and/or design.
