Art Teacher/Elementary Anticipated

About the position

The Art Teacher for Elementary grades EC through 4 is responsible for teaching art education and developing lesson plans that fulfill the district's curriculum program. The teacher will present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency and will work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed. The role includes planning and supervising assignments of teacher aides and volunteers, using technology to enhance the teaching/learning process, and conducting ongoing assessments of student achievement. The teacher will also be responsible for extracurricular activities and maintaining a positive classroom environment conducive to learning.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district's curriculum program.
• Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
• Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, Board policies, and administrative regulations.
• Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment.
• Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
• Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students.
• Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
• Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
• Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
• Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
• Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.
• Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district.
• Assist in the development of student portfolios.
• Create a classroom environment conducive to learning.
• Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct.
• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
• Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
• Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
• Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
• Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
• Compile, maintain, and file all required reports and documents.
• Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
• Regular attendance.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited University.
• Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned.
• Knowledge of subject area assigned, including drawing, painting, ceramics, fibers, printmaking, sculpture, and crafts.
• General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
• Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
