About the position

The Art Teacher is responsible for planning, organizing, and presenting instruction and instructional environments that facilitate student learning in subject matter and skills contributing to their educational and social development. The teacher will work under the direction of the Administrative Leadership Team and is expected to evaluate and adapt the curriculum in accordance with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. The role involves teaching approximately 25 students at a time, depending on the grade level or subject, and ensuring that instruction meets the educational needs of all students. Communication with students, parents, and staff is essential, as is the management of the learning environment and resources to maximize effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Planning, presenting, and assessing the curriculum as defined in the North Carolina Standard Course of Study.
  • Teaching approximately 25 students at a time during regular intervals, with variations based on grade level or subject.
  • Ongoing evaluation of the curriculum and program at Union Academy in collaboration with the Instructional Staff and Administration.
  • Providing instruction that meets the educational needs of all assigned students.
  • Communicating effectively with students, parents, administrators, and other staff members.
  • Employing effective planning, record-keeping, resource management, and learning environment management practices.
  • Ensuring student safety through appropriate supervision.
  • Assuming professional responsibilities that meet school expectations and promote personal and professional growth.
  • Implementing goals and objectives for certified teachers as outlined in individual growth plans and the school's improvement plan.
  • Performing any other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Must be highly qualified (HQT) or working towards securing this status.
  • Ability to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, typewriters, calculators, and scissors.
  • Ability to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
