About the position

The position involves developing and administering a school art curriculum that aligns with the goals and objectives of the school district. The art teacher will create lesson plans and instructional materials, translating these into effective learning experiences to optimize the time available for art instruction. The role includes planning and utilizing appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment, particularly for students with Individualized Educational or 504 Plans. The teacher will instruct secondary pupils in various art disciplines, including crafts, drawing, painting, lettering, design, commercial art, art history, and three-dimensional art, following the course of study adopted by the Board of Education. Additionally, the teacher will conduct ongoing assessments of student skills and learning, modifying instructional methods to meet individual needs, and will provide individual and small group instruction as necessary. The position also requires organizing art displays and exhibitions, maintaining accurate records, and encouraging parental involvement in students' education.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and administers school art curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences.
  • Plans and uses appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment as outlined in student Individualized Educational or 504 Plans.
  • Teaches knowledge and skills in art, including crafts, drawing, painting, lettering, design, commercial art, art history, and three-dimensional art to secondary pupils.
  • Provides instruction for pupils to develop aesthetic concepts and appreciation of art.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student skills and learning in artistic techniques and expression.
  • Demonstrates techniques in activities such as drawing, painting, and modeling.
  • Develops instructional plans and organizes class time for a balanced program of instruction.
  • Instructs pupils in proper care and use of tools and equipment used in art classes.
  • Evaluates each pupil's performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings.
  • Plans and presents art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit pupils' work.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and policies.
  • Coordinates with other school professional staff members and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Selects and requisitions appropriate books, art materials, instructional aids, and other supplies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution (Elementary/Secondary).
  • Meet professional teacher education requirements of school, district, state.
  • Single subject teaching credential or certification if teaching a specialized subject.
  • 0-3 years of teaching experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of teaching methods and legal educational procedures.
  • Regular and punctual attendance at the workplace is required.
