As an Asset Protection Manager (APM) at JCPenney, you will lead Asset Protection activities for your assigned unit in accordance with company policies and procedures, with the primary goal of driving sales and profits. This role requires a proactive approach to identifying potential acts of theft and fraud, as well as ensuring that the Asset Protection team is well-trained and adheres to company directives. You will frequently conduct developmental conversations with your direct reports, maintaining notes and observations of their strengths and opportunities for growth. Your responsibilities will include interviewing, hiring, and training Asset Protection talent for the store, ensuring that the team follows all Asset Protection policies and procedures. In this position, you will actively walk the sales floor, coaching associates in real-time to enhance their skills and advising Store and District Leadership Teams when opportunities for improvement are noted. You will be responsible for reviewing exception reports and investigation referrals to proactively identify theft and fraud. Additionally, you will conduct interviews with associates suspected of theft or fraud, ensuring that all documentation is complete and accurate in accordance with company policy. You will also communicate external theft trends to associates and collaborate with other locations and retailers to identify Organized Retail Crime (ORC) groups and patterns. This role requires you to attend hearings as necessary and maintain appropriate files with court-related outcomes. Building relationships with local law enforcement and mall security partners will be essential, as will reviewing reports of external apprehensions, internal investigations, and incident reports. Your leadership will involve tailoring company Asset Protection direction to your specific store and creating innovative ways to educate and motivate store teams to focus on shrinkage reduction and safety. You will coach store associates on maintaining a safe work environment and periodically audit departments for adherence to merchandise protection standards. Identifying opportunities for merchandise protection that deviate from company standards will also be part of your responsibilities.
