About the position

Attorneys in this section primarily handle appeals from criminal proceedings, juvenile delinquency findings, and sexually violent predator commitments. Criminal Appeals attorneys deal with a vast array of issues that affect everyday-Iowans, whether through preserving a conviction or ruling, taking a 'state's appeal,' or conducting motion practice before the Iowa Supreme Court. They also advise on extradition matters, review legislation, give legal training, speak at conferences, and counsel local prosecuting attorneys. No other group of lawyers appears more frequently before Iowa's appellate courts.
