About the position

The City of Norwalk's Office of Corporation Counsel is seeking a seasoned contract and transactional attorney to manage and advise on various contracts and transactions that the city engages in. This role involves preparing, reviewing, and negotiating contracts related to real estate, construction, finance, software, and general services, while also providing legal consultation to city officials and departments.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and negotiate contracts for the City of Norwalk.
  • Advise on real estate transactions including licenses, leases, and easements.
  • Support the City's Purchasing Division with bid documents and transactional matters.
  • Manage administrative actions or litigation related to contracts.
  • Provide guidance on the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to City officials and staff.
  • Attend department and Commission meetings to provide legal advice.
  • Research legal questions and prepare opinions or oral advice as needed.
  • Monitor federal, state, and intergovernmental publications to stay current in municipal law.
  • Assist special counsel when necessary to protect the City's interests.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
  • Five years of relevant contract and transactional law experience.
  • Admission to practice law in Connecticut.
  • Admission to practice in Federal Courts.
  • Motor Vehicle License required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Seven years or more of relevant contract and transactional and municipal law experience preferred.
