About the position

The Assistant Director of Events and Engagement at the University of Minnesota's College of Science and Engineering (CSE) is responsible for designing, collaborating on, and executing events and programs that enhance alumni engagement, drive annual and major giving, and strengthen donor stewardship. This role involves managing a variety of events, building relationships with alumni and donors, and developing communications that inspire participation in CSE's mission.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage, implement, and assess approximately 20-30 events per year including receptions, reunions, luncheons, and more.
  • Oversee logistics including venues, catering, décor, layouts, and audiovisual needs for events.
  • Provide comprehensive event support, including registration, nametags, mailings, and day-of logistics.
  • Monitor budgets, pay invoices, and manage vendor relationships for assigned events.
  • Build and maintain relationships with alumni, donors, and volunteers to enrich their lives and advance the University.
  • Collaborate with leaders, faculty, and staff across CSE to showcase the impact of the college's research and educational initiatives.
  • Develop and manage event and engagement communications that inspire participation and reinforce CSE's mission.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year institution.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience planning and executing events and programs or related experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as Google applications.
  • Evidence of excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work with volunteers, donors, and/or vendors.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to customer service.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Flexibility and initiative in managing change.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and research skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in an academic or nonprofit environment.
  • Experience using digital marketing and engagement tools such as Zoom, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, and Qualtrics.
  • Experience collaborating with multiple staff in a fast-paced environment.
